The six-furlong handicap (19:50) at Hamilton is one of the better contests on Wednesday and Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings are headed by Winter Crown (95) who earned the Horse In Focus Flag for his promising runner-up effort on his return at Redcar a couple of weeks ago. He was unable to get on terms with Dakota Gold who kept going well, but he made up good ground from the rear and took second close home. He runs off the same mark here, which is only 2 lb higher than the one he defied at Nottingham on his penultimate start last season, and looks likely to give a good account with that promising reappearance under his belt.

Also prominent on Timeform’s ratings is the in-form Catherine Chroi (94) who completed the four-timer when winning over course and distance a couple of weeks ago. She showed a willing attitude to extend her winning run and a 3 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t prevent another bold bid from a filly who has won six of her eight start since rejoining Iain Jardine. Two of her wins have been achieved over this course and distance and she has the Horses For Courses Flag to highlight her effectiveness here.

The others with the Horses For Courses Flag are Sacred Falls (94) and Jordan Electrics (93). Sacred Falls has also been in good order and she returned to winning ways at Carlisle last month after going close over this course and distance on her penultimate start. She was well on top at the finish at Carlisle and is a reliable sort who has been unplaced only once from nine starts in turf handicaps, with her record including three runner-up efforts over this course and distance.

Jordan Electrics was down the field here last time when bidding to complete the hat-trick, though he was in a much more competitive and better-quality contest. That was a rare blip at Hamilton from this four-time course winner and it would be little surprise to see him get back to the sort of level he showed when winning at Ayr and Carlisle last month.

How Impressive (93) has won three times on the all-weather since the start of the year and put a poor effort at York behind him when fourth at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago. He didn’t have any excuses there but has been dropped 1 lb and ought to give a good account of himself.

Pockley (91) is best forgiven his latest effort when failing to beat a rival here last week as he lost all chance at the start. However, he’s on a losing run of 11 since scoring at Newcastle in November and others hold stronger claims.

Jump The Gun (?) was operating below his best when last seen on the all-weather so has a bit to prove on his first outing since February.

Timeform’s Analyst Verdict:

WINTER CROWN is still low mileage as a 4-y-o and shaped well back from 4 months off when chasing home Dakota Gold in a small field at Redcar 16 days ago. He could be worth chancing to build on that operating just 2 lb above his last winning mark. Sacred Falls and Catherine Chroi both arrive in excellent form and head up the dangers in a competitive affair.

Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings:

95 Winter Crown
94 Sacred Falls
94 Catherine Chroi
93 Jordan Electrics
93 How Impressive
91 Pockley
? Jump The Gun
