Horse racing predictions: Wincanton, Lingfield and Wolverhampton – Monday March 27

Just a trio of UK meetings kick off the new racing week, with afternoon jumps fare from Wincanton (1.30-5.00) joined by the all-weather meetings at Lingfield (1.45-4.45) and, into the evening, at Wolverhampton (5.30-8.30).

Monday’s nap has thrived with a switch to chasing and may not be finished improving yet for trainer William de Best-Turner.

Horse racing predictions: Wincanton 2.30

The Somerset circuit carries the torch for jumps racing this afternoon with the sole meeting.

CALGARY TIGER appears hell-bent on making up for lost time having missed two years of his career. He was tailed off in the Kingwell Hurdle won by Goshen in February 2021 at Wincanton on his final appearance over timber and was not spotted again until making his chasing bow back here last month.

Odds of 50/1 suggested that expectations were limited but he came out and won with a pair of next-time-out winners behind in third and fourth. To emphasise that there had been no fluke, he went to Newbury at the start of this month and scored decisively, with almost 10 lengths in hand.

Again that form has been franked, with third home Gallic Geordie a scorer since at Wetherby and the fourth, Yes Indeed, only short-headed into second back at Newbury since.

The handicapper has put Calgary Tiger up 10lb for that latest win but he and 7lb claimer Ben Ffrench-Davis are fancied to complete their treble nonetheless.

Selection: Calgary Tiger @ 7/4 with Paddy Power

Horse racing predictions: Lingfield 3.15

Kevin Philippart De Foy’s filly ERMESINDE impressed with her debut success over course and distance at the start of February and the daughter of Golden Horn should be good enough to make it 2-2 now.

The well-backed favourite Latin Verse got a perfect seam up the running rail in that maiden for Rossa Ryan and Ralph Beckett, but was not able to thwart Ermesinde, who challenged wider but came on strong in the hands of Danny Muscutt to take up the running and ultimately win by a convincing length.

The runner-up has since recouped losses for his supporters, winning eased down back at Lingfield in late February, and that debut form for Ermesinde looks fairly solid as a consequence.

Although she has got a penalty to defy now, Benoit de la Sayette eases the burden to the tune of 3lb and it will be a shock should this filly not find plenty of improvement off the back of that pleasing debut.

Selection: Ermesinde @ 6/4 with Paddy Power

Horse racing predictions: Wolverhampton 6.00

In this Classified sprint over the minimum five furlongs on the evening card at Dunstall Park, THEREHEGOES could have a say at decent odds for Robyn Brisland.

The gelding has a poor strike rate (1-19) but he ran a pleasing race in this grade over 6f at Lingfield in January when last seen, getting away early and leading the field around before just getting overhauled late in the piece.

On the strength of that effort and kept to this company, he is worth a chance to go well, dropped in trip now under David Egan in a race where, typically, lots of their rivals have questions to answer.

Selection: Therehegoes @ 10/1 with Paddy Power
