Despite the ravages of the weather, most of the scheduled racing across the UK and Ireland today has survived, with four of the five planned meetings going ahead across the afternoon and into the evening.
First off is Wolverhampton (1.32-5.07), followed by Kempton (1.40-4.50), Dundalk (4.00-7.30) and Chelmsford (5.15-8.15). The only casualty is Bangor-on-Dee, abandoned yesterday because of a waterlogged track at the North Wales course and with further rain forecast.
Among our Friday fancies is one at the foot of the weights for the in-form Gary Moore yard.

Horse racing tips: Kempton, 3.40
With rain continuing to fall, conditions are likely to be unusually taxing at Kempton this afternoon and that won’t be every horse’s cup of tea in the feature. But one sort who won’t mind what the weather brings is trainer Moore’s ICONIC MUDDLE.
The 11-year-old went down all guns blazing in a similar event over 2m 4f at Wincanton last time, rallying bravely two out to make Tom Lacey’s Dibble Decker pull out all the stops. That race was on heavy ground and it was the first time he had encountered the surface since winning a Plumpton novice hurdle by 26 lengths way back in March 2020.
It wasn’t the first time he had finished with a flourish over 2m 4f either, as he looked well worth a crack at 3m when coming home strongly at this track just under a year ago behind Lieutenant Rocco.
Very lightly raced for his age, the veteran grey gelding clearly retains plenty of ability and he can come out on top in this step-up to 3m.

Horse racing tips: Dundalk, 5.00
There is some tidy action at the County Louth course this evening and one horse who catches the eye is TYSON FURY, who brings a considerable class advantage to this staying handicap.
The gelding was a fine runner when trained in England by Richard Spencer, the pick of his efforts being a solid fourth in the John Porter behind Al Aasy at Newbury in April 2021 and when hitting the line hard to finish runner-up in a Goodwood Listed race in September that year.
He had two goes at staying trips for previous connections but both were inconclusive and he has long looked as though he could thrive over further than the middle distances he has largely been restricted to.
After three solid runs for his new connections – on all three once again shaping as though he is worth a crack at a longer trip – he finally gets the chance to operate over 2m today and it could just be the making of him, with Daniel King in the driving seat taking off a handy 5lb.

The going is likely to play a key part in this contest, as many of these runners will have been dispatched by their teams to the Surrey course in the hope of better conditions. They are likely to be disappointed – but trainer David Pipe and jockey Jack Tudor will not mind worsening ground for their gelding SHOT BOII.
The seven-year-old has made a good fist of things over fences, starting with a solid fourth of 15 at Lingfield at the back end of November. After a lesser effort at the same course on his outing, he opened his account at the third time of asking, winning fairly comfortably at Hereford when visored for a first occasion.
The gear was retained for his next start at Warwick and he performed with great credit off a 7lb higher mark before a blunder at the last and finishing 18 lengths clear of the third and 4¼ behind the winner.
A 3lb nudge now is effectively for that error – and given he is looking progressive in the right headgear, he rates a rock-solid selection in a race of ifs and buts.
