Talented Wishaw teenager nets his first hole-in-one at town’s golf club

A talented Wishaw teenager has celebrated netting his first hole-in-one at the town’s golf club.

Fourteen-year-old Riley McCann was delighted to claim his first ace on the par three sixth hole at Wishaw Golf Club.

But despite hitting the shot of his life, Riley admits he didn’t have a clue where his ball had landed on the course.

He said: “I didn’t know where the ball had went.

“I was playing with some friends and hit it with an eight iron; we actually thought it went over the back.

“I didn’t realise until we got closer that the ball had actually gone in. It was the first one I have had. I was buzzing.

“None of my friends have managed to do it so far so it was nice to get one.”

Riley began playing the sport at the tender age of four at Lochview Family Golf Centre in Coatbridge under the tutelage of coach John Kelly.

As well as being a member of the junior section of Wishaw Golf Club, Riley also takes lessons at the Hamilton driving range with coach Euan Reid.

Riley’s mum Kerry Anne is delighted with her son’s achievement.

She added: “He has always been fairly sporty and seems to pick things up quite quickly.

“He was over the moon when it happened and it’s a great achievement for him.

“It’s a great sport to play with his friends and he also plays with his uncle Harry.

“From when he started Riley has had some great help from his coaches including John, Euan and Stuart Robertson.

“Riley watches a lot of golf on the telly but he says he doesn’t have a particular favourite. But it’s never off my TV!”
