The Garden of Time: Red carpet fashion from the 2024 Met Gala

Established in 1948 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, the Costume Institute Benefit (better known as The Met Gala) has become one of the most anticipated events on the fashion calendar.

The main source of funding for the institute’s annual exhibitions and acquisitions, the star-studded benefit celebrates the opening of the spring exhibition – all under the watchful eye of Anna Wintour.

Co-chaired by the Vogue Editor-in-Chief since 1995 (excluding 1996 and 1998), the gala has become one of the most visible and successful charity events, drawing attendees from the worlds of fashion, film, society, sports, business, and music.

These celebrity guests collaborate with the world’s most celebrated stylists in order to dress to a set theme, donning their most extravagant looks while ascending the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

From Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination to Camp: Notes On Fashion, the stylish spectacle has delivered some of the most talked about moments in pop culture, whether it be Lady Gaga’s theatrical outfit changes in 2019, or Rihanna’s custom John Galliano celestial creation – complete with a mitre hat – in 2018.

Famously falling on the first Monday in May, this year’s event is set to take place on May 6, 2024, with the highly-coveted invitations naming the dress code as The Garden of Time.

Mirroring the spring 2024 exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, the theme is inspired by the 250 items that have been pulled from the Institute’s permanent collection for this year’s exhibit, including some that have been rarely seen in public before.

Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, with designs from Schiaparelli, Dior, and Givenchy, there are so many ways for the celebrities to interpret this floral theme.

As well as raising funds for the institute, the night promises to deliver some gorgeous looks from some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

We’ll be sharing the red carpet looks as they happen to the photo gallery above.
