2. Jakarta Cleans Up Waste from 2024 Election Campaign Equipment, Some Used for Power Plant Fuel

Jakarta Environment Office will clean up the capital city from campaign props waste during the cool-down period ahead of the 2024 elections, starting on Sunday, February 11. Chief of Jakarta Environment Office, Asep Kuswanto, said that his office would not let the campaign waste enter the landfills or even be scattered.

“The cleaning up of the campaign props will be started on early Sunday,” Asep told Tempo in a WhatsApp message on Friday, Feb. 9.

The handling of campaign props waste was specified in a circular from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Through the Circular Letter of Environment and Forestry Minister Number 3 of 2024 dated January 31, 2024, regional heads must prevent campaign equipment waste from mixing with other waste in landfills as it is categorized as waste that appears irregularly.
